Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Ok, so I really love this poem. I love how the rhyme scheme just works for me, and my favorite part about it is the theme of winter and snow. It's my personal favorite time of the year. I'm not really good at understanding those deep meanings behind poems, but I just like how Frost describes the sounds and looks of winter. This poem is very special to me, and I have loved it ever since I was a youngster.
Man there were only 4 other people who have finished poem blogs when i wanted to comment, so Leslie please give me at least a comment on this one I'm doing now so I can at least get 5..... lol I know i am definitely gonna forget to do those other 2 tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteWe DEFINITELY analyzed this poem last year in my English class, but I don't have the foggiest idea what we talked about. Oh well. I do know that when I just reread it, it seemed like the person that was going into the woods had some sort of ulterior motive for being there and that Frost uses the winter scene to try to hide the horror of it, whatever it may be.
ReplyDeleteThis poem does paint a good image into my mind when I read it. But there is definitely a meaning behind it, which that I do not know. That is why I don't like poems like these.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this poem. I love at the end how it says "Miles to go before I sleep. Miles to go before I sleep" I don't know why, but it always speaks to me. Maybe its because I feel like we can always get better before we stop trying.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do like the poem, I am most certainly NOT a fan of winter. This poem does have a great mesage though.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I really like this poem. I like Robert Frost but I don't really see much of a meaning behind this poem.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sweet poem. Robert Frost is the man
ReplyDeleteI like this poem. Winter is my favorite time of the year too. This poem does a great job of describing winter too.
ReplyDeleteI really like the rhythm of this poem. It gets you to read the poem in a way that just flows along.
ReplyDeleteRobert Frost is also a classic. Even if you don't know poetry most people have heard of him, or one of his poems. I really like this poem and the rhyme sceme that he put in it.
