STNG Blog and such

After the slow, painful torture of watching an original Star Trek episode, I cringed at the thought of another Star Trek episode. It wasn't bad at all, though. The old ST reminded me of those old Boomerang cartoons, and was far from entertaining. This STNG episode, though, was very different from its ancestor. I was able to take this episode seriously and it made more sense than the original series.

I enjoyed that the writers included internal drama in the ship aside from the external conflict with the bad guys (sorry I forget their name). It was pretty intense while everyone was trying to decide if Data was a human or robot by law. The conflict really kept me entertained and interested for the entire show. It wasn't just "Ok good guys are gonna beat bad guys... now let's just see how interestingly the bad guys come into the scene". I was rooting for the poor Android the whole time though I must say...

  1. I disagree with you at the beginning, mostly because i was entertained by the antiquity of the original Star Trek. It was like watching an old archive, something from another generation that was still applicable to today's society.

  2. The older series is better, though... It's why there is a NG.

    Don't hate on Captain Kirk.

  3. How could you possibly hate Kirk and Spock. They are Star Trek to me and I don't really get your boomerang cartoon reference. Other than that I agree with your analysis of the episode and I agree that I was rooting for Data the whole time as well.

  4. I liked the fact that there where no "bad guys" involved in this episode either.

  5. I agree with you that it was nice to have internal conflict on the ship. So many movies today ignore that fact that it happens. It has become more of a good vs evil, and your right they are pretty predictable (the good guys always win).

  6. I have to agree. I wasn't a fan of the original Star Trek. I thought it was pretty boring and I did not want to watch anymore Star Trek after that.
