My Blog Problem
Well since Leslie is just so amazing, I only have a few problems that I could possibly address with all my class mates. I think I am gonna go with sources, though. They seem to be my main problem. I am having trouble finding good sources. I know part of it is laziness on my behalf, but I still need some help. I really do not know where to look for sources concerning Giles from Buffy. It seems like a very small area of study and I don't know where to look for VALUABLE resources. What about you guys, what kind of sources are y'all using? Where are you getting them from? And who thinks they have a solution for me?

Is there a specific question or idea you're hoping to get a source to help you support? That might help people figure out if they've come across anything helpful.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I feel like I could use anything concerning Giles. As long as the source has a considerable amount of useful information on him, whether it's about his relationship with Buffy, how he performs as Watcher, whatever. I would like to find sources for as many aspects of my paper as possible.
ReplyDeleteThe sources I used did not relate directly to Buffy. My topic is about adolescent relationships and all of my sources that I got were on that topic.
ReplyDeleteI'm writing about Angel, and I was able to find some valuable resources on the internet. There's this thing called the "International Journal of Buffy Studies." I found it through a google scholars search. Try looking through that, and seeding out stuff about Giles. It should be easy to find stuff on the show itself, and I'm sure there is something about Giles in there too.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to the source issue. It is hard to find "scholarly sources" that deal with what you need and whenever you find something good, you usually have to buy it. You just have to keep searching and eventually you will find something useful.
ReplyDeleteI'm writing on DOllhouse and all of my qoutes are about torture. If you are writing about their relationship, try finding an article that talks about friendships and what are key attributes in a friend
ReplyDeleteI am using some books about relationships and leadership among the society. I'm relating them to my paper about Angel. I went online to Google Scholar. It is very helpful, so take some time and browse around.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Scholar definitely can help, but you have to be specific when typing in quiries...
ReplyDeleteWhen I went looking for sources. I started by looking for things that exactly matched my topic. However, it wasn't until I brodened my search that I found what I was looking for.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mack. I would say that it might be better to look for quotes about friendship then tie them to Buffy and Giles. You already know a lot about both of them so you probably should be able to do this easily.
ReplyDeleteLeslie had a bunch of Buffy books in her office that I didn't even see until after the secondary source paper was due. I can't remember if there were specific things on Giles or not, but there were a LOT of good articles that didn't necissarily directly relate to my topic, but it gave me some good ideas on some other things that couls beef up the paper.
ReplyDeleteI think that checking out the books in Leslie's office will be your best bet. She has a bunch of Buffy books, and many have indexes so you don't have to skim the whole book to search for articles involving both Buffy and Giles.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help you, but my papers not on Buffy. Maybe try to look at some books on Buffy at the library. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteyou should get extra credit for your first sentence!
ReplyDeleteLeslie has a lot of books analyzing Buffy, but if none of those work, may be Google it? I find great sources just searching the web.
ReplyDeleteTry using a source that doesn't directly relate to the relationship between Buffy and Giles. You might want to look for something about father-daughter relationships because this appears to be a lot like Giles relationship with Buffy.
